London Review Part 2

Saturday, July 21st, 2007:
Saturday was quite a jam-packed day. My sister wanted to go shopping, I on the other hand simply wanted to fetch "Deathly Hallows", sit down and start reading until my eyes would pop out. Charming as I am, I decided to let my sis shop first. I still have no clue how I managed to stay that calm, knowing that "Deathly Hallows" was out and that people were probably finishing it the minute I was staggering from one shop to the other. However,  at 11am we accidentally passed the Waterstones on Piccadilly and I was finally able to get my hands on the pre-ordered copies. Yesssssss!!! Wasn't able to start reading until 3pm, though.

Regarding the sightseeing: we had a look at Piccadilly Circus, the Trafalgar Square, the Buckingham Palace and some random parks that I cannot even remember the names of. We walked like 10 miles that day and I was dead by the time we arrived at our Hotel.

Spent then the rest of the day reading.
Oooh, and I also remember that we had dinner at some point.

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007:

Surprisingly enough, we still had nice weather on Sunday (that was two days sunshine in a row!!!) so we decided to partially skip our plan to have a look at museums only. We therefore hopped on the Underground tube thingy and got off somwhere near Westminster. Had then a look at the Big Ben, the Parliament, Westminster Abby and the London Eye (nope, I was not up there coz I'm a wimp).

I then spontaneously decided to drag my sis to the King's Cross Station were we made the obligatory Platform 9 3/4 pic. Woot! After that we hopped on a random bus which at least went in the rough direction of the British Museum. Tehehe. A museum-tour followed. We basically concentrated on the Egyptian stuff since that's the stuff that the British Museum is most famous for. I won't comment on it but well, it was more like ... ummm ... "meh". *is apparently way too spoiled since she's already been to Egypt some years ago*

Then we went back to our Hotel and I bought like a ton of postcards. Whoever gets one will recognize that I totally suck at writing postcards. Sorry 'bout that in advance!

Spent the rest of the day reading. Woot!

Monday, July 23rd, 2007:

Finished reading "Deathly Hallows" right before breakfast. Have to admit that I felt pretty weird afterwards. Therefore distracted myself with even more sightseeing. Walked through Kensington Gardens, had a look at Harrods, bought some Jam and Tea, left Harrods, walked right up to the Science Museum, went in there, spent some hours in it  (again rather "meh"; the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. is way cooler, also the Science Museum in Chicago *swoonthud*), left, walked back to the Kensington Gardens thingy, crossed it and went back to our Hotel. That's pretty much it.

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007:
Journey back home. Breakfast, check-out, last journey with tube thingy, last train ride to Stansted Airport, last goodbye to London and back home I was. *sigh*

Conclusion:
I totally loved meeting all of ya guys. I have to admit that I was totally awed, so in case we didn't talk that much to each other, you now know why. Tehehe. But hey, meeting 15+ staffers at once is indeed quite daunting, innit? It's like having 15+ blind dates ... lol
Anyway, I really enjoyed the trip. Hope to repeat that soon!

Ooooh and before I forget it:
Pics can be found on my flickr right here!

Personal book review is to come soon...

London Review Part 1

Oh my gosh ... London was insane! That city is definitely the most chaotic city I've ever been to! INSANE!
But before I start repeating myself muttering "INSANE" another 4 times I'll rather give y'all a short review of the trip itself.

>>Disclaimer: Erna has never been to London before. All below described experiences are totally random and subjective.<<

Friday, July 20th, 2007:
Got up at 7am which under normal circumstances would kill me right away.
But yeah, since my sister and I had to hop on a plane I refrained from further moaning. At 10:30am (after a 1 1/2 hour car ride) we finally arrived at the airport in Munich and I was quite exhausted, already. When we finally boarded the plane I was that tired that I completely forgot my fear of flying. Well, actually I didn't forget it but I was so dead tired that I simply didn't care anymore. And then I slept ... all the way to London.

We arrived at London Stansted at around 1pm and since the Stansted airport is like 45 kilometres outside of London we had to hop on a train to get to London itself. Aboard of that train they had a dude with a trolley that sold refreshments ... where the heck had I seen that before? Unfortunately, they had neither Pumpkin Juice nor Cauldron Cakes so I was already pretty pissed when we finally arrived at Liverpool Street Station - the heart of London.

Have you ever tried taking the London Underground trains? It's insane! We in Nürnberg have a total of 2 different lines, they over there have at least 12!!! Needless to say that I was totaly confused and daunted.
Alone the act of getting us tickets took me like half an hour (btw: dodging the fare is simply impossible ... not that I'd EVER do such a shameless thing, anyway. MWHAHA). I now also totally understand why DDs scar is so valuable and handy coz when we tried to get to our Hotel, the line we were bound to take was closed due to some random flodding. *pfff* In the end we had to take a taxi which actually was an adventure on its own.

However, I wouldn't have cared that much about all this suckage if there hadn't been folks waiting for me. Maria, Hilde, Chris and I had an appointment at 4pm and all I was able to manage was 5:30pm which totally sucked coz it meant less time to spend with them. When we all finally met I was a mess. One drink later (thankee Maria!) I was quite stable again and ready for dinner. After the dinner we went to the Waterstones on Piccadilly Circus where thousands and thousands of HP fans were already queing in front of the shop. It was insane! Never seen that many Potter Fans at one place! Maria and Chris then said goodbye and Hilde, my sis and I went inside for the MuggleNerd Podcast. The podcast itself was pretty much rubbish but well, what do ya expect from them anyway ... *evil grin*. The highlight of the podcast was our folks ruining it by asking why the heck MuggleNet posted spoiler on their site although Jo begged us all to not do it. Folks, I have to say that question made my day! Tehehe.
Right after the podcast we were kinda thrown out of the Waterstones and we then also started queing. And then we stood there ... like at least 3 hours and nuffin exciting happened. At 1am we still stood at the same place although they had opened the doors at midnight. But well, there were just too many people!!! It was  INSANE!!! My sis and I then decided to abandon our try to get the book right away. It would have taken us at least another 6 hours to get it and since I'm a wimp I rather chose bed instead of waiting in a line with thousands of other HP nerds. So yeah, we then left the biggest HP release party ever and went on a 1 1/2 hour search for a taxi. No kidding. It took us 90! minutes to get a damn taxi and that in the middle of the night. Fun.

Part 2 of the London Review soon ...

Another Crackpot Theory

So, actually I wanted to prove
[info]sofieverus
theory about Snape being at Godric's Hollow the night the Potters died ... BUT ... while I was having a look at the Sorcerer's Stone DVD (we all know that JKR paid special attention to the filming process of that particular scene) I made a shocking discovery:

It was Snape who killed the Potters, not Voldemort!!!!

Proof 1: Shoes.
The hooded person approaching Godric's Hollows has totally shoes on:

And we all know that Voldie prefers to run around with nekkid feet...

Proof 2: The wand
This is Voldie's wand

A white bone like thingy, plain to a certain extent ... we all know it, we all love it...

This, on the other hand is Snape's wand:

Nice, plain and smooth ... a classic and very elegant wand.

Let's have a look at the scene now:

Okay, first glance I'd say plain wand ... could apply to both, Voldemort and Snape since it's dark outside and the colour is not really distinguishable

Let's have a look at the next screencap then (for those who have problems with looking at that cruel scene, I have the following advice: SCROLL DOWN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!):

So what do we have here ... aaah yeah, a brownish plain wand... and who has such a wand? Right, Snape!

but I think we need one more cap to tell for sure:

Here we go, that one is better.
So what do we have ... a plain, black-brownish wand ... Snape's wand.

I herewith conclude that it was Snape who murdered the Potters and not Voldemort.
May he now be caught and sentenced to be my new greasy butler till death do us part.

MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Dorky HP Theory Of The Day

Alberforth Dumbledore is an Animagus and his form is .... *drumroll* .... a goat.
As simple as that. And it really makes hell a lot sense when you think about it.
I mean, he has a flock of them, he "loves" them and the best way to get rid of their bezoars is to simply to ask them in Goatie (that's the goat's language) to spit them out!

Mystery solved.

Meme

Some days ago I was tagged by [info]hpelizabeth18 and yeah, I guess I can no longer hide so here we go:

Each player of this game starts with 6 weird things about you. People who got tagged need to write a blog entry of their own 6 weird things. They should as well as state the rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names.

1.  I'm addicted to ketchup. Siriusly, there's not one single meal that I don't drown with ketchup. Aaand it has to be Heinz Tomato Ketchup and ONLY Heinz Tomato Ketchup coz other ketchup brands make me throw up...
2. I'm a cat-whisperer. No kidding. I talk to my cats and they talk to me. The only problem is that they mumble hell a lot which makes it pretty difficult to understand what they really want. Hence the scratches on my arm...
3. I have the weird habit to unplug all technical devices before I go to bed. First I did it to save energy and therefore money but now I simply cannot sleep when I know that there's still one device on stand-by.
4. As most Bavarians I like beer. The only problem is that I hardly drink "just" beer. I tend to mix my beer with all sorts of quirky stuff like Sprite, Coke, raspberry and cherry sirup.
5. I cannot remember songtexts. None. At. All. Even if I heard a song a quadrillion times I only remember the first line of the chorus, if that!
6. I love running around in old clothes. Really old clothes, like OLD and ANCIENT. The shabbier the better. I do love new clothes, as well but if I had to choose I'd always choose my 12 year old red sweater...

And finally: tagging time ....
Umm wow, that's hard to find someone who hasn't been tagged yet but I'll try:

HAHAHAHAHA, YEAH SURE!

POTTER IN THE DARK
Bid to keep plot top secret
By Louise Male 26/05/2007

THE new Harry Potter book is being printed in eastern Germany amid Cold War-style secrecy, it emerged last night.
Security has been beefed up and bags and cars are searched to prevent leaks of JK Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Staff at the GGP print factory in the small town of Poessneck are forced to work in total DARKNESS to stop them reading the book, out July 21.
They have been sworn to secrecy and told they'll be sacked if they smuggle out copies - each day workers are searched when they come to work and before they go home.
They are also banned from betting on the plot.

Link to madness

I've read a lot of rubbish these days but this "news- story" is simply the best!

*rofl*

HP - fan = weirdo?

Fans are brainless consumers who will buy anything associated with the series, films or its cast.
Fans devote their lives to the cultivation of worthless knowledge.
Fans place inappropriate importance on devalued cultural material.
Fans are social misfits who have become so obsessed with their subject that it forecloses other types of social experience.
Fans are infantile, emotionally and intellectually immature.
Fans are unable to separate fantasy from reality.

Stereotypes - the scourge of humanity
I'm so sick of it.

I mean, good heavens! We fans aren't freaks, at all!
It's hard to believe but we actually DO live in a real world, with all its tensions and stress. That's even one of the reasons why we are fans! Fandom gives us an opportunity to leave all that stress behind! It keeps us from burning out in all the "important" things we do and it helps us relax and retain our perspectives.

So please, once and for all: we fans are neither emotionally unstable, socially maladjusted nor dangerously out of sync with reality!
Far from it! We are "perfectly normal, thank you very much"!
